Some antique rings draw you in with the size of a stone. This one draws you in with the beauty of the entire piece. Delicate, beautifully balanced, and wonderfully architectural, this Edwardian-era ring is built around sweeping silver-topped openwork that gives it remarkable presence on the hand.

At the center sits an antique rose-cut diamond, its softly faceted surface perfectly at home within the romantic design. Four additional tiny rose-cut diamonds are tucked discreetly into the surrounding silver work. They aren't immediately obvious; instead, they become wonderful little details discovered as you look more closely at the ring.

The design is exceptionally graceful. Flowing curves, open spaces, and beautifully worked shoulders create an elegant silhouette across the finger without feeling heavy. The contrast between the softly aged silver and warm 14K yellow gold gives the ring the unmistakable character of an antique jewel.

This is the kind of ring that captures what makes antique jewelry so compelling. The diamonds, metalwork, proportion, and architecture were designed to work together as a complete jewel. More than a century later, it remains a beautiful and remarkably wearable ring with genuine presence on the hand.

The Diamonds

The center diamond is an antique rose cut, with a faceted upper surface rising to a point rather than the table and pavilion arrangement of a modern brilliant cut. Its softer reflections are beautifully suited to the age and character of the ring.

Four additional rose-cut diamonds, each approximately 1.2 mm, are incorporated into the surrounding design. They are wonderfully subtle details, nestled into the silver work rather than presented as prominent accent stones. Together, the five rose cuts feel fully integrated into the ring's architecture.

The Setting

The pierced setting is what makes this antique Edwardian ring exceptional. The original 14K yellow gold structure is topped in silver, a historic construction that lets the diamonds sit against white metal while retaining the warmth of yellow gold.

The head features flowing, symmetrical openwork that extends into beautifully detailed original shoulders. Curving forms move outward from the center diamond, while the open spaces give the substantial 16.6 mm-wide face an airy, almost lace-like quality. From the side, the dimensional construction becomes even more apparent, with the head rising approximately 6.4 mm above the finger.

Importantly, the original decorative head and shoulders have been preserved. Approximately one-half to three-quarters of the lower shank was professionally replaced in 14K yellow gold, leaving the important original shoulder work intact. The ring was also brought back into round as part of its restoration.

Condition

This antique ring remains in beautiful, wearable condition following restoration. The silver-topped head shows age-appropriate wear and some softening to portions of the original detail. This is most apparent under high magnification and considerably less noticeable to the unaided eye. On the finger, the design remains cohesive and the ring faces up beautifully.

The partial 14K yellow gold replacement shank is a later restoration and is disclosed as part of the ring's history. The original decorative shoulders and silver-topped head have been preserved.

Styling & Wear

This ring has wonderful presence on the finger. At approximately 16.6 mm across, the openwork spreads beautifully across the hand while the airy construction keeps it from appearing heavy. Its approximately 6.4 mm profile gives the design dimension without making it excessively high.

It would make a beautiful alternative engagement ring, right-hand ring, or distinctive everyday antique piece. As with all antique jewelry, sensible care is recommended to preserve the original silver work and rose-cut diamond settings.

A Word on Resizing

The ring is currently a size 7. Because the lower portion of the shank has already been professionally replaced while the original decorative shoulders were preserved, any future sizing should be evaluated by an experienced bench jeweler familiar with antique jewelry. The original shoulder work should be protected during any alteration.

Note on Photography

Our jewelry is photographed at high magnification to show craftsmanship, condition, and detail as clearly as possible. This can make normal signs of age, wear, tool marks, and variations in finish appear more prominent than they are to the unaided eye. Please refer to the measurements provided for an accurate sense of scale.

Condition and Expectations

Many pieces in the TERA Collection are a century old or more. They have been worn, cherished, gifted, celebrated, and carried through generations before arriving here. Gentle wear, subtle signs of age, and the occasional evidence of historic stewardship should be expected and are considered part of the character that makes antique jewelry impossible to replicate.

Our photography is intentionally detailed and often captured at extreme magnification. In many cases, the images reveal details, textures, and tiny imperfections that are difficult or impossible to see during normal wear. This approach reflects our commitment to documenting each piece as completely as possible, ensuring that its condition, craftsmanship, and character are faithfully represented.

The result is simple: when your piece arrives, there should be no surprises. What you see is an authentic record of a jewel's present condition, preserving both its beauty and the story written into it over time.

If a condition issue exceeds what would normally be expected from a piece of its age, it will always be specifically disclosed within the listing.

Because every collector values different details, we are always happy to provide additional photographs, videos, measurements, or condition documentation whenever possible. If there is a particular aspect of a piece you would like to examine more closely, please don't hesitate to ask.

Our hope is simple: that the piece you receive is exactly the piece you expected to receive. We would always rather answer one more question than leave a doubt unanswered.
